May 22 update

Thank-you to all our ball hockey families that came out last week for our 2023 provincial evaluations!

We are pleased to announce the coaches for our 2023 Bruiser Teams:

U9 - Shayne Brown & Jarett Frey
U11 - Brad Towner, Brandon Kobley & Josh Moreau
U13 - Ryan Hintz
U15 - Derek Boschee & Robbie Watson
U18 - Darcy Gudmundson & Kit Clark

We still have space for a few more players and it's not too late to register! You can complete the form or reach out directly to the coach. Registration will be open until Thursday May 25.

Our next floor times for provincials are:

Monday May 29

5:30 - 6:25 - U9
6:30 - 7:25 - U11
7:30 - 8:25 - U15
8:30 - 9:25 - U18

Thursday June 1

6:00 - 6:55 - U13

The provincial fees are $175/player and include the team entry fee, 4 practices in June, and a new Bruiser shirt and shorts.

Finally, as players commit to provincials, the GCBHL, players, coaches and parents will jointly develop the ‘GCBHL Provincials Teams Charter.’ This document will outline our guiding principles, clearly stating our purpose, expectations of and commitment to each other group. When, not if, conflict arises we can look to the Charter for guidance to resolve the conflict. Unlike our league play, there will be a higher expectation to win and greater expectation to be accountable to our teams. And of course between games we’ll goof off like we should!

May 12 update

As shown below, our provincial evaluation numbers are low. At this point, we are in danger of of not being able to send a U9, U11, U13 or U18 team. This is a competitive fun filled tournament and is just down the road this year in Calgary. We would love to see you at evaluations on Monday and have extended the deadline to Sunday evening to complete the registration.

The 2023 AMBHA Provincials will be held in Calgary from June 30 to July 2.

It looks like there is interest enough to field teams in all divisions:

U9 - 2014, 2015, 2016 - 1 team
U11 - 2012, 2013 - 1 team
U13 - 2010, 2011 - 2 teams
U15 - 2008, 2009 - 2 teams
U18 - 2005, 2006, 2007 - 1 team

Please complete this form to show your ‘near-firm’ commitment to attend provincials should your player be selected to a team.

We will have 2 tryout/evaluation scrimmages for all age groups and hold 4 practices in June.

Evaluations will be held at the Moose as follows:

Monday May 15 & Monday May 29:
5:30 - 6:25 - U9
6:30 - 7:25 - U11
7:30 - 8:25 - U15
8:30 - 9:25 - U18

Thursday May 18 & Thursday June 1:
6:00 - 6:55 - U13

Coaches will be selected by a committee of board members, select league coaches and parents. Please send an email ASAP to gascityballhockey@gmail.com if you are interested in coaching a Provincial team. In your email, please indicate the level you want to coach and provide a quick summary of your coaching experience.

Ideally, we’ll have 2 goalies per team. One way we can entice goalies with more experience is using an AMBHA rule that allows backup goalies to play as a player and enter mid-game in relief or to replace an injured starting goalie.

League fees do not cover any of the Provincials fees so the anticipated costs will be around $175-$200 per player, and include registration fees, team shorts, and a T-shirt. This fee also covers the extra floor rental for evaluations and practices. We will use our club Bruisers jerseys.
