2025 Ball Hockey Alberta Provincial Information and Tryouts - UPDATED FOR CHANGE IN TIMES
We’re thrilled to be hosting the 2025 Ball Hockey Provincials!
This year’s tournament will take place across all rinks in Medicine Hat and Redcliff during the final weekend of June.
This article contains important details about the event—we’ve done our best to answer the most common questions teams and families have at this stage. Please take a moment to read through everything carefully!
How do I register for Tryouts?
- Click here to register before May 1, 2025
- This is the same link that was sent out a couple weeks so no need to respond if you already have
- If you are unsure if you registered, just register again as we can easily remove duplicate registrations
How many Provincials teams will there be?
- At this point, we are hoping to have enough interest to have 2 teams at each level; however, this will be dependent on how many interested players register

What do I need to bring for tryouts?
- Full equipment! No one will be allowed on the floor without proper equipment
- Pinnies will be provided upon check-in at try-outs
Do players need to attend both tryout sessions?
- Short answer, no. However, we strongly encourage players to attend all sessions that they possibly can
- If a player who is interested in playing, but unavailable to attend one or both sessions, must still be registered BEFORE May 1 and an email must be sent to gascityballhockey@gmail.com to inform us that the player is missing a tryout session
- In the event a player misses both sessions, an evaluation score will be assigned by league and coaches based on past high-performance team experience and in-league play
What is the selection process?
- We are working with Hat Ball Hockey (Adult league) to have adult independent evaluators
- However, we would love to see coaches out to help with evaluations for ALL divisions (not just the division you are coaching).
- Roster spots will be given to the top 10 evaluated players per team
- Remaining roster spots will be offered at the discretion of the board and coaching staff
- Players not selected may request a meeting with the coaches to be debriefed on why they were not selected
When will Provincials practices be?
- We have 5:00pm to 8:00pm starting May 12 on Monday, Wednesdays and Friday evenings booked at the Redcliff Rectangle
- The times have not yet been assigned to divisions, but each team will have at least 1 practice per week for the remainder of May and June
What is the fee to play on a Provincials team? What does the fee cover?
- The fee to attend provincials will be $225
- This will be added to your RAMP account once team selections are finalized and the amount is payable immediately once posted
- Preference of payment is by e-transfer or credit card through Ramp
- The fee covers team practices, the entry fee, and Provincials team shorts and a T-shirt.
- Jumpstart and Kidsport can possibly assist with funding
- Please reach out with any questions and we will do our best to assist
Have coaches been identified?
- Yes, we have identified coaches at every level
- Coaching staff will be officially named to teams once the final selections occur
Can players move to a higher division?
- We appreciate that some players are capable of competing in a higher division, but teams sent to Provincials have a greater expectation to win, so unless we aren’t sending a team in a particular division, we will not consider any division movements at this time
- After tryouts are completed and we understand the composition of all teams we MAY consider making movements, but the circumstances must be right for doing so
My child might not make all the practices - is that ok?
- We love (and encourage) kids to be multi-sport athletes and praise them for trying many things
- If players expect to miss several practices, please notify us as soon as possible BEFORE tryouts - coaches must be made aware of the players’ commitment to the team. As you can imagine, especially if players are released, it sets a bad example for his/her teammates
I signed up as a Coach, Assistant Coach or manager - what do I do now?
- First off, thank-you! We would never have Provincials teams at provincials without you!
- Please be sure you can help during evaluations
- Board members will be around the Redcliff rink to answer questions you have
I signed up for the tournament committee - what do I do now?
- Thank-you!
- Sit tight, we will be in touch once teams are formed
